The first trailer for Nas' documentary "Time Is Illmatic"
has just arrived online for viewing pleasure. The sneak peek is
released just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the rapper's
debut album which propelled his name to stardom.
"When I made 'Illmatic',
I was trying to make the perfect album," he says. "I was trying to make
you experience my life. I wanted you to look at hip-hop differently. I
wanted you to feel that hip-hop was changing and becoming something more
real."
"I gave you what the streets felt like," he continues. "What it sounded
like, tasted like, smelled like, all in that album. And I tried to
capture it like no one else could."
The documentary will make its world premiere on April 16 at the Tribeca Film Festival before hitting U.S. theaters.
